I’ve been in Sri Lanka for a week helping elephants and besides learning a lot about elephants, I’ve formed a new intolerance for 90% of the idiots in my year. Here’s some of the main reasons for this
Reason 1: HYPOCRITICAL FEMINISTS: let me make this clear, I have no issue with feminism, I’ve just got a major issue with people that can’t practice what they preach. There was this one girl on my trip who is constantly reminding everyone that she’s “a strong and independent young woman who can take care of herself” “she doesn’t need a man in her life to do anything for her” and while it’s okay to believe and say that, don’t make a fool out of yourself and do something contradictory. We were shovelling and hacking down some clay wall for the elephants and everyone was taking turns, this girl, picks up the shovel, scoops up one load of dirt into the wheelbarrow then turns around, hands this guy a shovel and goes “I can’t do this, this is guy work” THIS TOTALLY GOES AGAINST EVERYTHING SHE IS FOR. if she expects to fend for herself one day she’s got to get used to putting in some sort of effort some day. I would keep to myself about this and let her say and be who she wants, but she had a go at me for saying boys are generally stronger (physically) than girls in an earlier conversation (which is scientifically evident) so this rant was a sort of internal justice for me.
REASON 2: SPOILT & SELFISH
as soon as we walked into this family’s guest home, ¾ of the girls scrunched their noses and muttered how horrid this place was RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE OWNERS. This is all they have. They’ve put all their money to make this elephant sanctuary and this is all they can afford accommodation wise. All I could think was how rude of these girls. Then later, they were talking about plans to run out and go drinking so they could get sent home. how utterly ridiculous and immature. you’re not here to stay in a 5 star resort you’re here to make a fucking difference.
